WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Anything that would be in The New Yorker (journalism, essays, fiction, poems, cartoons), but appropriately local and DIY. We are especially interested in recurring contributions, be it an op-ed column, serialized novella, or 3-panel comic strip.
If we have a theme, it is being a local literary magazine. So anything related to A) Austin, or Texas broadly; hyperlocal news B) Writing and publishing; the so-called "literary scene" C) Both?
Entertainment/informative value to readers is of more import than highbrow merit, but don't mistake that for low-effort.
NOT SO MUCH
We print all images monochrome and very small to save ink, usually halftoned or otherwise heavily edited, so we don't really feature photography or visual art as a focus. We also can't easily fit long or visual poems due to space/column constraints. We prefer personal and academic essays that relate, in some way, to the Austin area or current events.
